Studio B Team

Since 1992, Studio B Films has partnered with our clients to communicate their messages with a clear, creative and bold voice. Located in a beautiful loft space in Berkeley, CA just 20 minutes away from San Francisco, Studio B Films is known not only for its quality, but also for its approachability.

David Collier {Founder/DP/Director}
David Collier has been a prominent figure in the film and video world since 1985. David enjoys the scope of his job, which ranges from visual artist and story-teller to business entrepreneur. He takes great pleasure in working with clients to get at the heart of their message and weave it into a creative, visual treatment.

Straight out of college, David directed and produced For Better or For Worse, a film that explores the lives and relationships of five feisty couples married for fifty years or longer. It earned him several awards, including an Academy Award nomination and brought him a wonderful range of documentary jobs for PBS, BBC, Discovery, MTV and Animal Planet. David sees his work as a license to be curious. Over the years, he has been fortunate to work with a wide-spectrum of clients including Adobe, Adidas, Gap, Clif Bar, Apple, The San Francisco Symphony and Microsoft. His projects have led him not only to amazing places, but also into the lives of incredible people and organizations around the world. Currently, David is co-producing a feature-length documentary about how a Bay Area arts organization is changing the lives of their students in Oakland’s inner city. When he’s not working, David can be found running through the Berkeley hills and never misses an opportunity to jump into swimming holes or explore hidden gems of the California Coast with his two energetic boys.
Phil Schulz {Director- Client Services}
Following the call of “Go West, young man”, Phil came to the Bay Area in 2005 after a decade of film & TV in NYC, working with the likes of Woody Allen, Law & Order, MTV, FX Networks, and anyone else that would hire the kid from Wisconsin. Once here, Phil applied his production expertise and insatiable curiosity to helping companies tell their stories through the (at that time) new medium of web video. Along the way he’s worked with Fortune 500 clients such as Visa, Chrysler, Cisco, Colgate-Palmolive, Dolby, and Yahoo!
Phil loves all that Northern CA has to offer. When not working, he can be found with his wife and their 2 kids, exploring coastline, forest and mountain.

He brings a passion for visual storytelling backed by a degree in Media Arts and Design and several years of experience working on news and documentary crews. Motion Graphics & Animation Services San Francisco - Studio B Films - Tim Kwong
Tim Kwong {Post-Production Supervisor}
Jack of all trades, master of none, Tim Kwong is the Post Production Supervisor and I.T. Director. He brings a unique blend of both useful and obscure knowledge to Studio B, thus making him an integral part of the team.

When Tim is not wrapped up in the VFX world, you’ll often find him day dreaming about being a professional fisherman.
Alisa Lee {Production Manager/ Producer}
Originally from Santa Barbara, Alisa arrived in the Bay Area six years ago with a background in technology and news and a BA in Multimedia Communications. She loves the hustle and bustle of the production world. Before joining Studio B as Production Coordinator, she was an Associate Producer for CNET News where she tested new tech products, interviewed celebs on the red carpet, and rode a hover board. Alisa loves hiking, running, and eating all the Mexican food she can get.
Dan Williams {DP/Technical Director}
Dan Williams is Studio B’s technical director and in-house DP. When his childhood career aspirations (train conductor, astronaut, velociraptor) didn’t pan out long-term, Dan turned to filmmaking to cope. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Dan studied film at UC Berkeley and has been shooting video for the better part of two decades. He’s trained in all walks of digital cameras, audio, lighting, and grip, and is always looking out for new equipment to add to the Studio B inventory. When he’s not busy behind the camera, Dan enjoys rock climbing, live music, and exploring the abyss.
Shani S. Blevins {Accounting}
Shani is the Dir. of Finance and Human Resources for Studio B Films. Shani attended San Francisco State University, where she studied Accounting, Corporate Finance and Small Business Entrepreneurship. She has over 13 years of experience in Accounting and Financial Management. Her career has allowed her to learn from the best in the Audit & Assurance Industry at local firms such as Ernst & Young LLP and Deloitte LLP. Later in her career, Shani realized that her true passion lied in Financial Management and Accounting, which led her to work for the Corporate Office of Party America and Fugro West Inc., where she was able to create and implement internal controls, while managing a multi-million dollar government contract. Then in 2004, Shani decided that the skills she developed while working for large corporations would be of greater benefit to the Small Business and Non Profit Sector, which is what lead her to start Shani Shania & Associates, a local Accounting and Financial Management Firm, and just seven years later lead her to join the team of Studio B Films.

"Studio B, That band of amazing misfits. We’ve produced literally hundreds of stratospherically successful motion graphics and live action videos together. From documentary films, demos and product tours, high end animated video, we even shot the first augmented reality music video together. They seriously kill every project we’ve ever thrown at them. It is an absolute pleasure working with such a talented and committed team. Their range and capabilities are extremely rare in a production agency. They have been a production partner of ours for years and will be for years to come."
