26 Sep How to Choose the Right Creative Agency for Your Video Production
There are a lot of talented creative agencies and video production companies in the San Francisco Bay Area (and beyond). So how do you know which one is the best fit for your video marketing needs?
To help guide you through the process, the Studio B team has come up with six questions you should consider when selecting a company to produce your next video:
- Does the work on the agency’s portfolio give you confidence that they will do the project and your brand justice?
Looking through a creative agency’s portfolio can not only give you a good sense of where they shine but is also a great way to explore and discover how that agency has approached similar projects. Sometimes, this can also serve as a reference for how you want the agency to approach your own video.
- Will you enjoy the process of collaboration with the creative agency?
Producing a video campaign with a new production company can be stressful, but it can also be a lot of fun. Starting with the first call or in-person meeting, it’s important to take the time to assess if your team is going to enjoy working with the agency. Does the agency feel like a good cultural fit for your company? Are they collaborative? Do you love their treatments? After all, creative storytelling and video production should be fun.
- Does the production company get your brand and your audience?
We begin every project with a conversation we call the discovery phase where we learn about your company’s brand and video needs. If an agency isn’t asking you lots of questions about your brand and your audience, there’s no way they will know how to connect with them. After initial conversations, we pull together a proposal that outlines not only our proposed approach but also the goals and objectives of the project, as well as our assumptions about the intended audience and how to best engage them.
- Does the production company have fresh, creative ideas that take your product or brand to the next level?
You may have a clear idea of how to best approach your video project. However, if other approaches seem appropriate for your intended audience and will help elevate your brand, a good creative agency should develop concepts to that end. In our opinion, by finding unexpected approaches that capture the imagination, videos can win the hearts and minds of your customers.
- Can the video production company articulate a clear production process?
It’s important that a creative agency can communicate their process and explain all of its phases – from pre-production through post-production. It’s also essential that they give you a production calendar with milestones. That way, you will know you’re on target to meet your deadline within budget.
- Is the budget aligned with the creative and does it seem realistic?
It’s part of the agency’s job to make sure that the budget is realistic and aligns with the creative approach the client has agreed to. If a video production company presents a budget that seems too good to be true, it probably is.
