16 Aug Helping Facebook Engage and Recruit the Best and the Brightest

Two years ago, Facebook’s sourcing operations and engineering team came to Studio B Films and asked us to make a recruiting video to bring them the top engineering talent in the world, and that’s what we did. Like all of our videos, the first phase was discovery — we needed to learn to speak their language. In pre-interviews, Facebook’s engineers told us their stories. We got a taste of a company culture that fosters growth and the opportunity to be a part of history. We discovered the ins and outs of their brand and saw clearly why a career at…

02 Aug Studio B helps Munchery Sell the Magic behind the 15-minute Meal

Last fall, owner of Studio B Films and self-proclaimed tasty food connoisseur, David Collier, tried Munchery for the first time with his teenaged sons. He was so impressed with the company’s fine service and delectable meals that he thought, “We need to make a web commercial for these guys.” Truth be told we are all foodies here at Studio B Films, so producing this online spot was an exciting and natural task for us.  After much correspondence, Munchery agreed to a meeting. David chose to co-direct the piece with director, Ross Thomas. Together they pitched a video that would showcase…

03 May Adobe & Studio B Make Lemonade with “Life Gives You Lemons”

Adobe was looking to create a 60-second marketing video for Adobe Sign and Adobe Document Cloud. They wanted to collaborate on a clever video that showcased how their products could help any business run more smoothly. Studio B Films pitched Adobe a handful of  imaginative ideas. The Adobe team picked one with a group of children running their own business, a lemonade company. The kids are feeling the pressure of trying to expand and grow their company with an outdated business model. From a production standpoint, the exciting part of the project was taking an empty garage and transforming it…

03 May Gap Inc. Wins Catalyst Award for Commitment to Equality

When Gap Inc. won the prestigious Catalyst Award for its commitment to equality, they summoned Studio B Films to help tell the story of their strong corporate culture. The request for a high-quality video to showcase their leading brand at the 2016 awards ceremony was met with enthusiasm. A tight delivery turnaround and an additional requirement from Catalyst to show hard data in graphics form, increased the need for efficiency and perfection. We used our design and animation expertise to help structure their data in a visually compelling and well designed form. Scheduling interviews for Senior Executives, along with CEO,…

27 Apr Magic Instruments & Studio B Films Harmonize for Crowdfunding Video

Magic Instruments, a music technology start-up recognized by accelerators Y Combinator and Highway1, needed a crowdfunding video that would display the awe, excitement and fun that comes from engaging and learning to play their new instrument, MI Guitar. Rather than strings going up the fretboard, like a traditional guitar, it has buttons so you can play chords with a single touch. With the companion mobile app, you can play a song like a rock star instantly. The Magic Instruments and Studio B Films collaboration was a hit from our first meeting. Brian, Andrew, and Marc at Magic Instruments conveyed that the most…

22 Apr Calysta and Studio B Films Join Forces for Sustainability

Studio B Films joined forces earlier in the year with Calysta, a company that creates innovative industrial products from sustainable sources. Animation Supervisor, Tim Kwong, streamlined a bulk of great ideas to the stunning visuals you see in the final cut.

22 Jun Why Animated Characters Might Be the Best Storytellers

Sure cartoons may be primarily for kids, but don’t underestimate their informative strengths and appeal to more mature audiences. Studio B Films recently completed its first, full animated characters project with the National Kidney Foundation and Publicis Medicus. It features adorable, comical kidney cartoons explaining the importance of monitoring your kidney health via unashamed urination tests. The “Everybody Pees” video (posted above) has already acquired 260,000 views and counting. Granted much of this popularity is due to the national outreach of the foundation, but much of the video’s success can be attributed to its delightful animated subjects. Here are five…

15 May Studio B Films Shoots Hoops With the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors were pretty busy this 2014-2015 season, winning the most games in franchise history and taking their success to the final rounds of the NBA Playoffs. Despite their jam-packed schedules, shooting guard Klay Thompson and small forward Harrison Barnes were able to film with Studio B Films and Adobe to promote Adobe’s new Document Cloud. It was a nervous start to the shoot as the production team, and Warriors fans everywhere, were worried about the status of Thompson’s ankle. The night before the shoot, March 16, Thompson tweaked his ankle playing the LA Lakers. Although he finished…

03 Apr Cliff and the Drones

Cliff and the Drones — sounds like a killer rock band.  Well, we think Cliff is a rocker. Studio B Films recently had the pleasure of working with cinematographer, Cliff Traiman, who knows a little something about flying cameras. With the current drone craze, we thought we’d ask Cliff about the allure of working with copter cameras. How did you get into drone camera work? I was frustrated by having to work with other operators. I really wanted to be able to put the lens where I wanted to and control the timing of the shot. Working beside the guy flying…

19 Mar Studio B Films Welcomes Creative Director Bill Groshelle

Studio B Films is a lucky bunch – we’ve got Bill! Bill Groshelle joins us as Creative Director, and brings his deep experience in film and video.  His expertise spans the media gamut, but he’s particularly adept at leading complex projects — he pioneered the “blendo” technique, an approach combining live action, graphics, and animation into a seamless image. Groshelle started out as a director for Colossal Pictures in San Francisco and since then, his work has ranged from commercials for Young & Rubicam, Chiat/Day, and McCann-Erickson to special effects on features such as Top Gun.  He also designed and directed many of the original MTV…
